child throwing Stone
Sun soaks Stone every night until he is warm as life.
Every night, Stone listens to all the secrets
Drinks them as water in the dark
Until Sun returns to dry them up.
Every night Moon finds Stone empty,
Empty enough to listen.
One day at dawn a child’s hand
Wraps Stone in fingers brighter than Sun,
Throws him into the deep voice of River.
Stone falls gently to the bottom,
Lovingly carried there by his weight.
From the silent sand
Stone whispers secrets still,
Until every drop of my body remembers.
